Why take this tour?

Just moments after taking off from our riverside heliport, you will find yourself immersed deep in the Alaskan backcountry. As you explore the mountains just outside Denali National Park, look below for local wildlife or keep your eyes on the horizon for a chance to see Mt. Denali, North America's tallest mountain, or Mt. Deborah, her impressive sister to the east. You will set down on the soft, alpine tundra giving you the opportunity to step out and into the scenic landscape. With the pilot as your guide, take this opportunity to explore the local ecosystem, scan for local wildlife, snap a flurry of keepsake photographs, or just sink your feet into the tundra and breathe in the crisp mountain air.

What to expect:

  • 15 minutes of helicopter time
  • 15-20 minutes mountain landing/exploration only accessible by helicopter

What you need to know:

  • Dress warmly; layers are recommended
  • To ensure the safety and comfort of all guests, backpacks, purses, iPads/tablets, selfie sticks, drones, and other items of the sort are not permitted aboard the helicopter or in the cockpit.
  • Cameras and a sense of adventure are welcome!

Frequently asked questions

Absolutely! The entire trip will be narrated by your pilot and your voice-activated headset will allow you to speak to the pilot and other passengers any time.
In our aircraft, there are 5 passenger seats and the pilot. Some flights may be full while others may have just a few people. While this is generally thought of as a small plane, the Piper Seneca is actually quite roomy inside.
The airplane has a heater and at our normal altitudes, the air is only slightly cooler than on the ground, yet if you tend to get cold, it's a good idea to bring a sweatshirt or light jacket.
We recommend: A sweatshirt or light jacket Sunglasses (or prescription eye-wear) A well-charged camera Bottled water, if desired Due to limited space bags can be stored with our team you fly
If the weather conditions are such that we cannot provide an enjoyable tour, we will work with your schedule to select an alternate day or flight time.
Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a spotting. Moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and bears are all possible to see from the plane but each trip is different. Much of it depends on how good you are at spotting animals from above.
Yes. While not expected, it's certainly appreciated.
Yes. Stampede Aviation is able to offer charter and air taxi services to take you just about anywhere in the continental US and Canada- weather permitting. If you have a special request for a custom tour we can take your request and work to build a customized experience.
Absolutely! This is one of the benefits of our more personal flights. We cannot provide car seats or boosters, so plan to bring your own FAA-approved one if desired. If your child is under age 3, we may suggest flying with only your family/friends, as to not disturb strangers if the child becomes upset during the flight.
We don't have a specific weight limit; we operate based upon the overall weight of the aircraft. Before you fly, we will ask for your current weight. Please answer honestly as our team must do the correct calculations to ensure the flight is safe. We promise that our team will protect your information. If you don't feel comfortable at any time, pull us aside and we'll ensure your privacy.
We have the ability to climb to 12,000 feet or more, but depending on weather conditions, most flights are conducted from 3,000-8,000 feet above sea level, which is generally about 1,000-5,000 feet above the ground. This is to maximize the views of the scenery near us and avoid the need for supplemental oxygen or a pressurized aircraft cabin.
At this time, the FAA only allows the use of 21 different Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC). If you have one of these devices, you are welcome to use them onboard as long as you have a note from your physician stating it is medically necessary. If you are unsure if your device is approved or have a special circumstance and/or question about your situation, please reach out to us because we may have additional options.
